What started as the standalone Smart light festival in 2009 has involved into one of the world’s most spectacular and inclusive community events that attracts performers from all over the world. Vivid Sydney, which ends on June 17, features creative industry forums, a contemporary music program, and a mesmerising exhibition of outdoor lighting sculptures in a number of precincts across the city.
Light: This year’s Vivid Light program includes Audio Creatures projected on to the sails of the Sydney Opera House, installations at the new Barangaroo (South) precinct, the retro-futuristic smart city at Chatswood, and Lights for the Wild at Taronga Zoo.
Music: See and hear the “musical mind” of a fascinating, steampunk-themed percussion installation at The Octopoda in Chatswood; groove to Silent Sounds Silent Disco underground at the Oxford Art Factory, and the robotic stilt walkers and Hula Hooping Geishas at Tokyo Disco at The Rocks.
Ideas: More than 400 Vivid Music events will be held across the city alongside 280 Vivid Ideas events including the Game-Changers Talk Series with American contemporary artists Shephard Fairey and BuzzFeed founder Jonah Peretti.
