Decorate with modern removable wallpapers
THINK wallpaper and visions of old-fashioned, daggy patterns, spilt glue pots and mess spring to mind. And forget changing your mind. Wallpaper is notorious for being difficult to hang and almost impossible to remove.
But The Wallpaper Company has brought wallpaper into the 21st century with modern designs and an innovative hanging system that makes it easy to install and just as easy to remove. Best of all, there’s no damage to the wall.
Jenny Menz started the company in 2006 by selling removable wall decals.
“Our product had the look and feel of traditional wallpaper, except it offered an alternative to the 10-year commitment: glue and heat guns — it is self-installed and removable,” she says.
“The product is a 100 per cent polyester fabric with a beautiful woven finish.
“You simply peel and stick to put it up, and when it’s time for an update or to move home, you can peel it down and even move it to your next home, without removing any paint or leaving any residue, so it’s landlord friendly.”
Many houses have white or neutral interiors, and Ms Menz says people relied on soft furnishings to add a touch of colour to their space.
“Wallpaper creates a high-end look and brings the room together,” she says.
“Our product is self-installed and removable — so there are no labour costs, which make it an affordable option. And for the person who isn’t confident with styling or who changes their mind often it is a no-risk solution.
“We print to order with no minimums so customers can actually design their own wallpaper, or even supply a photo that we will make into a full wall mural. Our most popular murals are our cityscapes of Paris and New York, and customers are loving them.”
Ms Menz says another popular design was the world map mural that included QR [matrix barcodes] to allow families to learn more about each of the countries.
