Byron Bay’s Bluesfest
Held in Byron Bay over the Easter long weekend, Bluesfest is a multi-award winning music festival that attracts acclaimed musicians from all over the world. From a modest crowd of 6,000 when it began at ‘The Piggery’ in 1990, Bluesfest now attracts an audience of over 100,000.
Santana, Jimmy Buffet, Remi, Neil Finn, Patti Smith and Band Acoustic, The Wilson Pickers, Ricki Lee Jones, Mary J Blige, Nas, Kasey Chambers – these are just a few of the artists that will be hitting one of the seven stages over the five-day festival. Renowned for its relaxed vibe and jam-packed, all-ages program, Bluesfest has matured into a sophisticated event where lovers of music, art, culture and community come together in one scenic destination.
The Soul Rebels
Described as “the missing link between Public Enemy and Louis Armstrong”, The Soul Rebels es an ight piece brass ensemble hailing from New Orleans. They’ve shared their musical mayhem with major artists including Nas, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Marilyn Manson, G-Eazy, Joey Bada$$, Curren$y, Talib Kweli and Big Freedia, among many others.
Patti Smith is a bestselling author, performance poet, visual artist and activist whose extraordinary contributions to the artistic realm and human rights have been recognised with an induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Polar Music Prize, and the honour of “Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres” from the French Ministry of Culture just to name a few of her accolades.
The Wilson Pickers
The Wilson Pickers is a three time ARIA Award nominated, five piece acoustic and vocal harmony group hailing from Australia’s east coast. Since forming in 2009 as side project between John Bedggood, Andrew Morris, Sime Nugent, Ben Salter and Danny Widdicombe, the Pickers struck a major chord and became festival favorites around the country, renowned for their harmony singing and jovial attitude.
Ricki Lee Jones
Since emerging onto the pop scene in 1979, Rickie Lee Jones has made a career of fearlessly experimenting with her sound and persona over 15 critically acclaimed albums. Rickie is both a character in the songs and the songwriter singing, defying convention with her sometimes brazen sexuality and the mixed bag of jazz, rock and what has come to be known as ‘confessional’ songwriter performances.
Debuting at number one on the ARIA album charts, Kasey’s latest album, Dragonfly, also holds the distinction of being #1 on the ARIA Top 50 digital albums, Top 40 Country Albums, Top 20 Australian Artist Albums and Top 20 Australian Artist Country Albums.
